What is Foundation Program?

About the Foundation Program

Study & Meditation

Foundation Program (FP) is a unique, structured study program that enablesstudents to gain deeper understanding and experience of Buddhist teachings and to develop a regular meditation practice. It is ideal for those who have a general understanding of Buddhism but who wish to learn more and to make a deeper commitment to their practice.

Through regular teachings and meditation, systematic study and group discussion, Foundation Program offers support and structure to our spiritual life. In essence it is the same training followed by practitioners in an unbroken lineage dating back to Buddha Shakyamuni. The special quality of this program is that it affords us an opportunity to gain authentic experience of Dharma without abandoning our modern lifestyle.

Each class includes prayers, guided meditations, discussion, and a teaching from the text. These teachings show us how to begin a regular meditation practice and transform all of our experiences into the spiritual path.

The cost of the Foundation Program is $60 per month to join, which enrolls you as a supporter of the center. As a supporter, you can attend all regular classes at Odiyana Center, and receive discounts on special events and retreats.

The book we will be studying is Eight Steps to Happiness.

If you're interested in participating in the Foundation Program, please contact our Educational Program Coordinator for more information:

Eight Steps to HappinessAbout the Book

This inspiring book reveals essential methods for developing universal love and compassion, the source of true happiness for both self and others.

It gives a detailed and practical commentary to eight beautiful verses that comprise one of Buddhism's best-loved and most enduring teachings, Eight Verses of Training the Mind. Composed by the great Tibetan Bodhisattva, Langri Tangpa, this short poem shows how we can transform all life's difficulties into valuable spiritual insights.
